Born on August 15, 1914, in Brooklyn, New York, Paul Rand (formerly known as Peretz Rosenbaum) was a twentieth-century American art director and graphic designer. He was one of the very first Americans in the graphic communications and advertising industry to adapt to the Swiss Style of graphic design, influencing and setting trends for many design-related fields up to this day.

After many years of designing logos, Rand devoted a lot of his time in his final years into writing a lot of books and memoirs, continuing to shed a light on his graphic design work for future generations. Due to Rand’s immense talent and creativity in graphic design, Steve Jobs, founder of Apple Inc. named Rand as “the greatest living graphic designer” after their collaboration on the NeXT Computer corporate identity project (Behrens, 1999, p. 68).

Rand was also best known for the logos he created for a variety of large corporates and firms, such as for management consulting company, IBM; television broadcasting company, ABC, logistics company, UPS and more. Many of these corporate logos are still in use today.
